I know when i pray, i say enough to cover the subject. I don't kneel for extended periods of time making it look like I'm in deep prayer. I genuflect when i enter the pew (respect for the house owner, God, just like i take my shoes off when i enter someones house), I say prayer before Mass starts (to begin the celebration, like saying high to the owners of the house), then I sit for the celebration and enjoy the company of the others gathered. After the "meal", the Eucharist, i kneel thanking God (the owner) for the meal and the time shared, and genuflect after the Mass, (to say my good-byes). I feel that, that is sufficient enough, since God is a personal God.
What I can't stand is the people who don't believe in God, take communion. That pisses me off to no end. There was a kid who was in my graduation high school class that openly denounced God and Christ as his deity and take communion at our graduation Mass. He went through all the theology courses and was taught, "If you take the precious Body, and Blood of Christ you are eating your own damnation. Since, only those in God's Grace can receive Him." I was there in that class when he learned it. I agree, I sin, and I ask for repentance, but its when it comes to the big things, like taking Communion while not in God's Grace that i have a problem with.

Jesus also stood up against social structures...which is to say he didn't go with the status quo. Jesus has balls of steel.
Also, Becker was a cynical depressed person. He had no hope for humanity and his opinion on the matter, though reasonable, is not infallible.

Yes, but you're ignoring the extensive research of the Jesus Seminar which suggests that Jesus was challenging the entire social system, benefits cycle, defining of groups, etc. If you look at their evidence, Jesus was an incredibly benevolent and loving individual.

Also, see Ernest Becker, David Loy, et al., in the search to destroy evil we only end up creating more evil.

Very true. Like how everyone always waits to stop kneeling 'til the priest sits down. I always want to scream, " You're kneeling 'cause Jesus was on the altar. When he went in the tabernacle, you were good." Though that's not even that true, 'cause the Eucharist subsists in a human body for about 15 minutes after consumption, so we're all walking tabernacles for awhile. But I agree that not knowing the meaning behind rituals is dangerous, and worrying about them too much is even more dangerous.

I wouldn't know. That is the point. She does not talk to me. And hasn't for years. So i find it hard to believe that she would do that. It seems to all fall under a category of interpreting silence. Which with a mind like mine usually comes to the conclusion that one could give a shit less.

The woman who just fulfilled her contract...did you know that she would name a son after us? Bet you didn't. Last time I saw her, she said that had her most recent child been a boy, he would have been name after either of us.

Just thought you should know.
